Life Of A Marketing Girl

Are luxury brands for ‘The Culture’ ? Let’s take a look!

April 3, 2017

Brands such as Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci are shifting from their traditional marketing strategies. They are now taking Inspirations from youthful, savvy, cool, brands such as Supreme, Kith, Van’s and many other fashion conscious brands!

When I think of street wear brands the first few that spring to mind are:  Supreme, Fear Of God, Kith, Vans, Bape and Off-White. The hype beast sports luxe Vibe.

The culture behind street wear style is more of a movement and lifestyle influenced by fashion, music, art as well as the diverse sub-culture trends in the millennial era. Collectives are formed through natural friendship. Projects are collaborated by cool individuals vibe together to create amazing content.

GUCCI

luxury brands

Gucci introduced a new watch collection and embarked on a #tfwgucci campaign to launch their new watches to retail. The collaborative meme project created by Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele, commissioned various artists to adapt meme features as a social media campaign around today’s sassy internet culture.

I was awakened by the ‘left wing’ approach for the watch campaign. Compared to their classic marketing strategy of sticking to ‘picturesque’ editorials, spectacular dreamy locations and using the most famous super models to grace the cover of Vogue and the many other reputable publications. This is a key example of a luxury brand tapping into the new normal forms of marketing that street wear brands have been using to connect to their customer and speak about the culture to the people within the culture.

DOLCE & GABBANA

luxury brands

Next we have Dolce & Gabbana renowned design for its classic Italian intricate design. Designer Stefano Gabbana announced that the brand was embarking on a new strategy to showcase their latest collections for during fall fashion week in Milan. #D&GMillenials – The theme was blasted all over my social media and all fashion online sites, you couldn’t miss it. Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2017 included millennial influencers, bloggers and many celebrity offspring in the modelling industry!

Again here we see another classic luxury fashion brand embracing culture relevant influencers who are the go-to creatives within the fashion, music and art industry. Not to mention today’s influencers who are now famous for being a cool creative.

Insight and Tips

  • To sustain relevancy and be at the fore front of the industry to appeal to new consumers. Luxury brands are shifting from traditional marketing strategy and homing in on the emotional connection stemmed from young savvy, internet crazed and fashion conscious consumers.
  • Some Luxury brands are finally understanding that they will not be seen as ‘cool’ if they are not working or collaborating with those who are the main voicers to the trendsetters of style. And they are seeing it’s not the super model it’s the young girl with a colt following that embodies dope style just because.
  • You cannot only speak to customer base of class demographics aka (someone who can typically afford luxury). More young girls and boys are willing to safe and invest in their pieces which is an authentic consumers.
  • ‘Bottom’ influencing the ‘top’ – Where grassroots and street style associated affordable brands are the leaders of birthing new trends and luxury brands are looking at their strategy and looks for inspiration.

Luxury brands such as, Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana are great examples of shifting their marketing strategy and moving with the times to stay relevant. This is very important for product brands, if you stay the same you lose out on new audiences and opportunities. A key learning is here – Keep up with the times or be prepared to get left behind!

Want To Get Into Digital Fashion Marketing – Meet Tasha Antwi

March 12, 2017

From studying digital marketing in University and having an idea that digital fashion was the future. To Now Working with Bottega Veneta, Ralph Lauren and even Blackberry.

Meet Tasha Antwi.

Get to know how SEO content, blogger outreach and influencer marketing is a #GirlBoss career!

Digital Fashion Marketing

What is your job role?

Organic Performance Team Lead & Digital PR

What does that entail?

I’m the lead on 4 accounts, providing SEO consultation on on-site and off-site SEO and content marketing. I work on overall SEO and content marketing strategy, blogger outreach and publications.

I’m also looking after the new Digital PR offering due to launch this year. This will involve upscaling influencer marketing, and identifying grass-root influencers.

What big brands can you share that you have had the pleasure of working with?

Early on in my career I had the pleasure of working with big brands such as Bottega Veneta, Ralph Lauren, Mr Porter, Barbour, New Look, Kurt Geiger, BlackBerry and much more!

How did you get into the industry?

I actually came across SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) while doing my dissertation at university, which was all about online advertising in fashion. At the time, I knew I wanted to work in marketing, working with big fashion brands and digitally.

Back then SEO, and ranking highly in Google, became a big thing as ranking highly in Google but you in the position to drive the most traffic to your website.

As a marketer what do you think is the gem to propel you to success?

Working for a data led digital marketing agency, it’s been exciting to see how data can be used in such a clever way to formulate marketing strategies. Being proactive in learning and becoming an expert in this ‘new idea’, testing it and showing results is what makes you stand out. Especially when it comes to Digital Marketing.

In the industry do you look up to any other women in your field? If no, do you think there is a lack of e.g. female CMO’s, female creative marketers and female mentors?

One person I look up to in the industry is Jenny Thompson who is the Head of Data and Advanced Analytics at Forward 3D. She is the most down to earth person I’ve ever met, and is soo smart and compelling.

I do feel there is a lack of women in senior management positions, especially women of colour. Unfortunately when it comes to tech and digital marketing, we just don’t get enough women of colour applying for roles!

What is the most rewarding campaign or achievable win that you are most proud of?

Ralph Lauren, I was proud to be a part of the Abbey Road campaign, promoting the launch of their 60’s inspired AW14 collection. I was in charge of inviting influencers to the event, and designing and creating additional content around the collection – to outreach and gain placements online.

Who/what is your greatest teacher?

My greatest teacher would be my faith. Being a Christian is what makes me who I am, and is the foundation of all my values. Values that shine through at work, which I hope one day also inspires people. Matthew 19:26 “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

What is your most valuable lesson?

One of the most valuable lessons I learned from my dad. He was a man full of regret about the things he didn’t get to achieve in his life, due to various situations. He taught me to always take chances, what’s the worst that could happen?!

You can fail but then you would be at peace knowing you tried that thing you always wanted to do.

Now thats a Marketing Girl Boss!!

Ripped Jeans – Mixed with a thought piece on knowledge!

March 2, 2017

The other day I got a message from someone on my Instagram asking – What do you think of Ripped jeans? And I said I love it, its fun. It was a random question but it really ticked that ripped jeans is a key trend that is impactful to looks.

Again I am wearing my favourite staple brand Wolford! This time I’m wearing the Opaque Transparent Nature body. It soft, stretchy, with asymmetric detail that adds some detail.

Now to more important chit chat!

Knowledge Is Power – This saying was said to me so many times as a child and NOW as a 25 year old have I really deeped and understood it. Especially in my career and knowing how to deal with people in the work place, colleagues, senior members of staff. As a blogger, knowing how to communicate assertively but classy, knowing how to negotiate with brands so that you I don’t be a disservice to myself.

You have to know your stuff. You have to be equipped with the knowledge, the wisdom and the facts to move forward fearlessly in all aspects of your life. A key tool to do this is knowledge. Going into any environment blindly is dangerous. Engaging in experiences and not being prepared to shine and own your contribution and value in any situation is a BIG dis-service to yourself!

Let’s do better. If you want to get into the blogging/YouTube world research, find out what you like and how you would like to contribute to the blogger-sphere. Want to be a creative director? Again research make that your life (not take over your life) but embrace the passion, determination and be clued up so that you can deliver to the best of your ability. What ever it is the same principle applies.

I’m sharing this because it is a trait I have been consciously embracing and activating in my life and i’m seeing the fruits of my labour and it feels amazing. I want you to feel this way too!

Mesh Fits and Rip’s

December 1, 2016

Mesh fits and rip’s is all that it is, but it is impactful. Mixing and matching textures always results for a stylish, chic look. This is more of a cosy girl vibe that I am channelling but I like it. At the core of my style, feminine fits is home, but I always like to challenge myself to stretch myself with a new-normal.

I got these white ripped jeans from ASOSs not too long ago and I have worn them more than a doesn’t times. They are not so tight and not too baggy. Just right for the casual fit I have been looking for. I styled it with a mesh body from Wolford as it adds a sexy flare compared to just wearing general T-shirt. Of course Vans is the ultimate cosy fit footwear that works with everything so I threw them on, as I wear them most of the time.

Black and white is classic and perfect colour combo for this London winter. It is so cold, I can’t express it enough!

Random Thought – Authenticity

In the social world that we live in, it seems so easy for people to get caught up, follow suit and becomes sheep! I say this because as bloggers and influencers becoming the ‘in’ thing. People see this as easy and try to do anything to fit in and perceive the same image, lifestyle. Or even more commonly, get instant gratitude that the likes of Instagram gives people.

For me personally nothing feels more liberating that enjoying who you are and what you stand for. Not wanting to confirm and stand firm behind your beliefs, contrary to what may be popular or popping on the ‘gram’. Purpose over popularity! This is the key, in everything you do, embody and stand for purpose. That ignites authenticity and stability in that. With that being said…Please NEVER believe the hype!

Turtle Neck – Keeping warm and sexy!

November 14, 2016

Turtle neck vibes are the perfect go to for keeping warm, as the coldness is no joke in these London streets! And it got colder quicker than anyone expected this year.

This week I’m sharing a simple chic casual winter look that I wore recently. A black simple ribbed turtle neck from Mango that i got last winter. Along with these sexy, thigh-high slit culottes from Miss guided. I got these in time from my end of summer trip to New York this September, and they are very flexible to style with different looks. I know what you’re thinking? It’s cold though. And that’s my point keeping sexy and warm and testing at times! The things you do at this young age for the love of style lol.

This season I really have played with casual style looks and really enjoy being comfortable. In my last two points I have highlighted this. My everyday looks tends to be my Nike Air Force 1’s, with jeans a turtle neck and my New Zara Puffa coat.

I sometimes play with the types of tops or jumpers and make it more feminine and sexy depending on where I’m going, just like this look.

I have been really reflective for the later of the year. A lot of things haven’t worked out and a lot of things have. I guess that is life, nothing is ever really predictable. I know I just changed the subject of this style post. It’s important I always drop an aspect of substance to blogging and being a ‘fashionista’ so to speak. There is so much more to me then fashion, I’m a marketer, working in the creative industries and building a name behind the scenes. I definitely will be sharing and putting more content on here of projects. Which will be more of projects that I am working on and my business interests.

August 9, 2016

So I have been strictly fashion and lifestyle when it comes to blogging but my eyes and ears have finally opened up into the world beauty, which is all things makeup and skin care. Beauty plays a huge part in completing your personal style, adding to your personal aesthetic to the amazing facial features and maintaining young, glowing skin.

To immerse myself in the world of beauty, I attended Farfetch’s first beauty blogger event at the London Make-up School for an evening of beauty demonstrations of the current SS16 beauty looks that graced the runway! It was really great to have a professional make-up artist take us through the different looks and show us the best application when applying these looks.
