Ripped Jeans – Mixed with a thought piece on knowledge!

March 2, 2017

The other day I got a message from someone on my Instagram asking – What do you think of Ripped jeans? And I said I love it, its fun. It was a random question but it really ticked that ripped jeans is a key trend that is impactful to looks.

Again I am wearing my favourite staple brand Wolford! This time I’m wearing the Opaque Transparent Nature body. It soft, stretchy, with asymmetric detail that adds some detail.

Now to more important chit chat!

Knowledge Is Power – This saying was said to me so many times as a child and NOW as a 25 year old have I really deeped and understood it. Especially in my career and knowing how to deal with people in the work place, colleagues, senior members of staff. As a blogger, knowing how to communicate assertively but classy, knowing how to negotiate with brands so that you I don’t be a disservice to myself.

You have to know your stuff. You have to be equipped with the knowledge, the wisdom and the facts to move forward fearlessly in all aspects of your life. A key tool to do this is knowledge. Going into any environment blindly is dangerous. Engaging in experiences and not being prepared to shine and own your contribution and value in any situation is a BIG dis-service to yourself!

Let’s do better. If you want to get into the blogging/YouTube world research, find out what you like and how you would like to contribute to the blogger-sphere. Want to be a creative director? Again research make that your life (not take over your life) but embrace the passion, determination and be clued up so that you can deliver to the best of your ability. What ever it is the same principle applies.

I’m sharing this because it is a trait I have been consciously embracing and activating in my life and i’m seeing the fruits of my labour and it feels amazing. I want you to feel this way too!

Be Free!

August 16, 2016

Another style post but more importantly a post with a message and its simple be free! Do not allow yourself to be defined by your job or your title, how many hustles you have going on and a big one for this millennial generation, ‘what do you do?’

You is just enough before any of these additional applications come into play. I, myself recently experienced this. I would hold onto my job title, who and what I was affiliated with to feel like I’m on the level of where I am supposed to be as the next 25 year old girl. When things changed I then questioned everything! Who am I, people asked me questions and I couldn’t answer as they were questions linked to being defined by my title or job and I didn’t have that so I was like well….nothing. But it is not true, you will always have an answer, right in front of them, and it is yourself!

Be free and own being yourself, it is the most freeing discovery ever, and as a result things have fully changed and changed for the better and opened up a bigger sense of purpose, just from a result of owning being me. So be free, except who you are and never let another person, job, or anything define you. You define yourself and that is the most freeing thing ever!

So my style post is me, Olivia Gold, being free in a green mini dress, YSL heels and Levi denim jacket.

God is good and he will always show you the light!

Be You, Be Yourself, It Is Enough!

July 19, 2016

This year has definitely been one so far filled with a lot of ups and downs, people judging and not always having genuine intentions. You present your best self at all time but to them you’re not what they looking for. What does that even mean?

I have come across a lot of negative, condescending people in this industry (work specifically) who didn’t want my light to shine at all. Who I am and who I represent myself as, is not enough for them or what they ideally would like. To be honest I have come to terms with that and I will explain why further down. It is a shame that the ‘creative fashion industry’ doesn’t take to diversity as much as they say they do but I will not let that stop me, I may not be who they want but I am enough, I have something unique to offer just like anyone else.

I am talking about a few recent experiences this year that has concluded to the same thing such as points like this; the ‘ideal’ girl for this role or the ‘person’ we are looking for…When I heard phrases like this said me to me, I laughed inside because I do exactly what the opportunity and skill set requires but it’s not enough? What are they picturing that I am not giving you? What are they seeing that they feel is not the right fit? I have been told that my blog is a conflict of interest, with no explanation. I was told my outside of work activities was breeching my contract, which was helping a friend on her amazing event. Anything I did was an issue, they were always looking to highlight what they thought was wrong. It’s funny because I got advise from my mentor and other girl bosses in the industry who I would consult on any queries my worked flagged just to cross check if I was doing anything wrong or not and they would always reassure me, what I am doing is just fine.

My horrible experiences of not being accepted once made me question my ability and question my passion for a minute, crazy right! But I never stray too far from my truth and who Olivia Gold is, I know who I am and know what I have to offer and I will NEVER let anyone make me question myself again. If you don’t like me because I am not the right fit then so be it GOODBYE. Sometimes god opens your eyes and reveals the unexpected.

I know my worth and I know my purpose. I share this with you, as encouragement and a note to myself to never give up, we are all going through trials and it is not a race so don’t watch what others are doing. Focus on you and stay away from the noise, be still and let god guide you. Very soon, someone will appreciate ALL you have to offer.
